WALKING FOOTBALL JOBURG LEAGUES

From Europe to Africa, Asia to the Americas, the sport of Walking Football is thriving. Whether you’re looking for fitness, friendship, or competitive play, Walking Football offers it all.

THE LEAGUES

Walking Football Joburg is a sports league that co-ordinates teams wanting to play at different levels.

Each team consists of a squad of between 8 and 10 players – with 6 players on the field at all times during the games. The remaining players in the squad sit on the bench until called on to replace one of the active players in the game.

It’s a rolling substitution system, meaning that players can come off and go back on as many times as is required.

CAPTAINS

Each team is run by a captain and vice captain who are reponsible for arranging game time for the team, entering the team members and collecting the fees for each game.

GAME TIME

Games are 30 minutes – 14 minutes for the first half, a 2-minute break and 14 minutes for the second half.

However, the time slot allocated for each game is 1 hour – 20 minutes of coaching and warm-up before the start of the game, and 10 minutes of post-match briefing and cool down.

COACH/REFEREE

For each match, a coach/referee will be allocated. He/she will take both teams through the warm-up and discuss the rules. Players who have questions can then clarify the rules before the game.

The coach will then be responsible for controlling the match and disciplining the players if required.

The coach/referee will be responsible for submitting the results from each match.

LEVELS

Captains and players can elect to play at any of the levels where they feel the most comfortable. If any of the players elect to play at a lower or higher level provided there is a team available to accommodate them.

At time of registration, captains can choose to enter their team in one of the following:

  • Energetic
  • Moderate
  • Snail Pace

The emphasis is on enjoying the game and ensuring that players don’t over-exert themselves.

FREQUENCY OF MATCHES

Matches may be played once or twice a week, depending on the availability of a coach/referee and a venue.
